Upon coming to Barcelona I had envisioned my stay to resemble one of my favorite films, Woody Allen's "Vicky, Cristina Barcelona". So much time I had spent daydreaming about meeting my real life Juan Antonio... unfortunately I haven't been quite so lucky. But nonetheless I can't say enough wonderful things about this city.
From the stunning architecture, insane nightlife, the weather (ahhh
how I love warm summer nights), the food...but really it comes down to a
certain aesthetic. It might have to do with Barcelona being a
result of being a place where so many cultures converge (Catalan,
Spanish, French, Italian, Arab…) or maybe it's something else. But
today it hit me while I walked through my favorite neighborhood (el
gotic) that everything here
is designed with a sort of beauty that really speaks to me, from the
garbage cans, to the toilets, to the street lights to the buildings. All I
know for sure is that I'm determined to learn Spanish and come back to
this wonderful city!
